RUMMAGE REPORT AND NEXT SALE
We just finished our June sale and thanks to all of you we raised around $4,300 and are still counting. Thanks to all the donated, volunteered, attended, purchased and supported. Whew! Congratulations! Job well done!

But guess what! It’s time to get ready for the October Sale. So, with summer clean ups and downsizing, put together a bag, or call for pick up. Things you don’t need are someone else’s treasures. These are huge fundraisers for us, so thank you for your support.

NEW PROGRAM COORDINATOR, May 2017
This was a long process and, after over 20 people applied, I am delighted to announce that our Admin Assistant, Kristina, was chosen by me and two interview committees to be our new Program Coordinator. She will do an outstanding job. Now we will be hiring a new Administrative Assistant. We look forward to welcoming a new Admin in the near future. Please congratulate Kristina. Looking forward to great programs.

AUCTION 2017 REPORT
Thank you again to every sponsor, donor, guest, and volunteer. You made this event a tremendous success. We are still adding and subtotaling. Our very ambitious and dream goal was to gross $80,000. We are at $84,235 gross and still climbing. Our previous high was in 2016 when we grossed $72,711. Expenses usually run around $12,000 to $14,000. A detailed report will be available by early May. Stay turned and, again, thank you! Awesome!

Agency Name Change

Beginning January 1, 2016 Senior Services has a new name “Sound Generations”. “The word “sound” has many positive meanings, beyond the geographic reference...it means strong and reliable. While Senior Services name is changing, our commitment to our mission remains steadfast.” Ballard NW Senior Center will not be changing the Center’s name. The Center will keep the same name as always, Ballard NW Senior Center.

How Bingo Saved This Seattle Man's Life
When Bernie Sadowski first came to the Ballard Senior Center in 2009, he didn’t care about life. His wife of 50 years had died. “It was like, OK, I’ll go to sleep when I feel sleepy no matter where I was,” he said. He didn’t care if he woke up, and he didn’t know what to do with himself. Sadowski’s doctor told him he was going through depression and suggested that he get out and socialize. Sadowski’s daughter took him to the senior center. “Frankly, this saved my life,” Sadowski said.

Councilmember Phillips, Lunch and Support
Larry Phillips, a long time supporter of the Ballard NW Senior Center, stopped by the Center on March 4th, 2011 to have lunch and answer any questions people had about current events in politics. He also presented a check for $15,000 from King County which will go to supporting the activities and services provided here at the Center.
