Presentations are held in the Harmony Dining Hall after our 12:00pm Lunch.
Speakers begin speaking on a variety of topics at 12:30pm.  All presentations are FREE.

Note: Since the center is closed on July 4th, Kristina is presenting Tech Table on Tuesday July 11th.
Join Program Coordinator Kristina for lunch on the 1st Tuesday of each month to ask questions, discuss technology issues, and listen to information on new tech. Everyone is welcome to bring their phone, tablet, laptop, or computer book. Remember we have Free Wi-Fi throughout the whole building and an open Computer Lab. “It had been on my bucket-list since I was a boy and read Huck Finn,” reports Dave Ellingson, who paddled the entire Mississippi River in his kayak. Author David Ellingson, the Paddle Pilgrim, will speak about his kayaking trip through the Erie Canal, down the Hudson River to New York City and to the Statute of Liberty.

Photography taught in a supportive atmosphere, using a standard or digital camera.  Activities include outdoor trips.  The photography workshop is open to all levels. Photographer leader Boon Goh has the approach that everyone can learn to see through the lens and capture an amazing moment in time.  The group has become family and welcomes new members.

QUILTER’S 'Bee' - Free

Practice basic to advanced skills with three available sewing machines.  Yards of 100% cotton along with Fat Squares in an array of patterns and colors including holiday fabric are available.  Join the quilters, if not for quilting then for sharing stories and laughter.

Taught by well known Ballard artist and instructor Susan Schneider Beginners and drop-ins welcome. Learn many basic to advanced techniques that will build upon your expertise.  You may choose to bring your materials or supplies, but most supplies are provided. 


Fitness-Exercise Classes & Activities

Practice positions to build strength and balance. Everything we do relies heavily on our ability to balance. This is a fantastic class to increase balance and also is a great way to get started exercising. All abilities are welcome.

Group Leader & Dancer Paige

Dancing is a fun whole-body workout. It's good for your heart, it makes you stronger, and it will help with balance and coordination. Freestyle dance is so fun and liberating. It captures the essence of what dance is really about – moving for the sake of matching motion to music. No dance experience needed. Great for new and experienced dancers. Falun Gong (also known as Falun Dafa) is a system of self-improvement through cumulative exercises, which are traced back thousands of years to ancient China. 

The benefits of practicing Falun Dafa include improved health, newfound energy, mental clarity, stress relief, and peace of mind. Each class includes five sets of easy-to-learn gentle stretches and meditations. Variations on these are available for those who wish to sit during the class. Drop-ins welcome!

CHAIR YOGA - $5 Members / $10 Non-Members

Practice positions to build strength and flexibility while deepening relaxation. All abilities are welcome. Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. This class is perfect for people who want additional assistance to balance during yoga poses. Certified yoga instructor. Punch Card for 4 classes available.

GENTLE YOGA - $5 Members / $10 Non-Members

LAUGHTER YOGA - FREE - Currently on Break

Laugh your way to good physical and mental health. These classes introduce techniques to effectively exchange your oxygen, by ridding you of old oxygen and bringing in new oxygen. Laugh your way to better health.

Dive into fitness with water aerobics! Provided in partnership with Ballard Pool. You can enjoy water resistance training to improve muscle strength, posture, balance, and increase your mobility and joint flexibility while also easing stiff joints and relaxing sore muscles.

Here’s your opportunity to join a fantastic and caring writing class and work with local published writer Claire Anderson.  Claire and other students assist each other with developing writing skills.  These writers have published two books under the guidance of Claire!

It's all about story!  Bring your fiction or non-fiction to our group.  We'll discuss some aspects of writing followed by reading your stories.  Are you feeling too shy to share your work.  That's okay too.  Just come and help us critique others.  When you feel comfortable, you can take a turn.  Just being in the presence of other writers can put you in the mood to write.  Gail taught English and writing for 32 years and wrote for a publication for the last eighteen years.  She is also well published on the internet and in newsletters.

Musician & Singer Linda Lee
1st & 3rd Fridays, 1:00pm-3:00pm

We are offering a sing-a-long group. This group will be led by guitarist and song writer Linda Lee and all are welcome to come and sing, sing, sing whether you can carry a tune or not. Just come have fun and sing songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s or other times that are important to you. Just have fun. Additional musicians are welcome, and you don't have to be a BOOMER to join in. Drum circles are happening all over the world!  That’s because hand drumming is a wonderful way to increase coordination, sharpen memory and lift your spirits! In this joyful “playshop,” you’ll learn how to play hand drums (like West African djembes and Cuban congas -- supplied) and how to feel rhythm rather than count it.  Within minutes you’ll be playing the music you love to dance to!  No musical background required!  Register by calling the center 206-297-0403 or in person at the 2nd floor reception desk.

Costume Fittings for the Students of Introduction to Musical Theater participating in the production of “The Odyssey” will be from 3pm-7pm. We will be providing transportation for the later fittings between 5:30pm at 7:00pm. Rehearsals are every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in August. Students using the van should RSVP at the center to join this series of trips. These trips are available only to those participating in “The Odyssey”.

30 Minute Lessons By Appointment
Personal piano lessons with talented and friendly Paige.  Learning music has proven to improve your memory and coordination, reduce stress, and it’s fun.  Pianos are also available here at the center for practicing. 

Paige has taught piano for many years.  She is trained in classical piano, has written for theater in Seattle and composes music for piano and other instruments.  She loves to share her own pieces in the classical style with others. She has traveled and lived in many places and now has returned to Seattle, which she considers her true home.
