Welcome to Ballard NW Senior Center

April 6, 2020

Due to the Governor’s extension of the “Stay at Home” order, the center will be closed through May 5, 2020.

Reminder: We are open for take out on April 7, 8, and 9. Delivery will be April 7 and April 9. See menu below.

Now is the time to remain extra vigilant. It looks like the curve is starting to flatten a bit, and that is good. BUT, we must follow the guidelines and not start to go out etc. Social distancing, washing hands often, sanitizing, and staying home except for essential tasks is a must. Let’s beat this thing by following all the rules.

We are very grateful to Ballard Trader Joe’s for the delicious products they donate for our take-out/pick-up lunches. We so appreciate your help and support!

Hi Everyone,

It’s starting to feel a lot like Spring, and let’s make it positive even under this very difficult COVID-19 situation. Keep Smiling, it helps you and others.

We welcome Jennifer, our new social worker, who joined our team April 1st. If you would like to have a social work phone chat, there are no in person appointments because the center is closed, email Jennifer at jenniferc@soundgenerations.org, leave your name, email address and phone number, and Jennifer will contact you and set a time for a phone visit.

Also, if you are just feeling the need for a phone friend to chat with please let Jennifer or me, Carlye, at carlyet@soundgenerations.org or Carolyn at carolynw@soundgenerations.org know as we have some community volunteers that are happy to call you and spend a few minutes being phone friends. These are community neighbors and have offered their services to help older adults from the center with a variety of services during this pandemic. They applied, and I have run background checks on them. But as always, don’t ever give out your personal or financial information to anyone.

We hope you and your family are doing well during this difficult time. Remember it is important to stay socially connected even though we are asked to stay home to stop the spread of the virus. Try staying in contact through FaceTime, emails, by phone or even write a letter. Read an uplifting book, do a jigsaw puzzle, and write down some positive things, and smile. You will feel better.

I hope everyone is doing well. We miss you and look forward to seeing you all back at the center when this virus leaves. The staff is working to and providing services to meet the needs of our participants, connecting people with resources and services and doing take out pick up lunches Monday thru Thursday from the center’s front door and organizing limited deliveries Tuesdays and Thursdays. I want to take this opportunity to give tremendous thanks to our staff Lori and Carolyn for their amazing work. We are a great team. I also want to thank our several committed volunteers who have been here supporting all that is being done. So thanks to Past program coordinator Jessica and Carol and Laurie for all their help with the takeout meals and to Lisa for her office and handout support and to Pete and Katie lunch delivery drivers, and Jeanne, Lynne, Bobbie and Amanda for their support and standby help. We are a special team that is doing a great job. I so enjoy seeing you every day coming by to get meals and offering conversation, a funny story, giving each other greetings and smiles and how are you, all from at least 6 feet apart. Thanks to you all that are practicing social distancing, hand washing, sanitizing, and not touching your faces etc. If we each do our part, together we will beat this virus. Keep up the good work everyone.

New information. Because of the order to stay home  etc. the center will remain closed through Tuesday, May 5, 2020. We will reassess as we move through this difficult time. Watch this website for updated information. This is also a very difficult time for the center financially. There is a donate button on this homepage. Any donation large or small is greatly appreciate.

We have Chef Lori’s delicious lunches available for pickup between 12 and 1p.m. Monday thru Thursday at the front door. Please stay 6 feet away from those ahead and behind you  as you wait to get a lunch. Please see my letter and the section about meals farther down the home page.

Thanks watch this page for additional information,

Carlye
